The Need

The elderly Muslim population in the UK is projected to experience a substantial increase, growing from 110,000 in 2011 to an estimated 450,000 by the year 2036. This demographic shift has been accompanied by evolving needs among Muslims, particularly highlighted during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Traditionally, Muslim communities have relied on familial care for their elderly members, prioritizing in-home support. However, changing dynamics such as both parents working have made it increasingly challenging to provide adequate care at home. A report by the Wolf Institute in 2015 indicated that there could be a notable rise in the number of Muslim patients in UK hospices, partially attributed to shifts in the traditional family structure.

The Muslim population in Britain, constituting the second-largest religious group after Christianity, is currently experiencing an aging demographic. This aging generation has distinct language and religious requirements. A collaborative study conducted by the Muslim Council of Britain and the Centre of Islamic Studies at the University of Cambridge in 2019 has emphasized the escalating need for elderly care within British Muslim communities. However, this demand is not being adequately addressed. Furthermore, even in cases where services are available, there exist significant disparities in how local authorities address the religious needs of elderly Muslims. These disparities can be observed in areas such as the provision of halal meals in care facilities and the consideration of a caregiver’s gender when assigning domiciliary care. Additionally, challenges in arranging transportation for attending Friday prayers further highlight the gaps in existing support systems.

Our Proposal

We present a strategic development proposal for the establishment of a non-profit, self-financing residential care home dedicated to providing high-quality, culturally sensitive, and faith-based care services for elderly Muslims in the UK. This unique venture aims to create a nurturing environment that upholds Islamic values while ensuring financial sustainability through innovative funding strategies.

Our Mission and Vission

Mission: To provide compassionate and dignified care for elderly Muslims, focusing on their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being within a culturally sensitive and religiously accommodating environment.

Outreach and Community Engagement

Our goal is to create awareness and make a lasting impact in our community. Through engaging seminars, workshops, and cultural events, we aim to educate families about the services we offer and build a strong network of support. We understand the importance of media and online presence in today’s digital age, which is why we have established a user-friendly website and active social media platforms. Our informative content highlights our mission, impact, and success stories, allowing us to connect with a wider audience. Additionally, we believe in the power of collaboration. By forging alliances with local mosques, Islamic centers, educational institutions, and healthcare providers, we can strengthen our ties and expand our reach to serve even more individuals and families. Together, we can make a difference.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance

Adhere to regulatory standards set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and other relevant authorities to ensure that our care home maintains the highest level of quality, safety, and ethical practices.

Conclusion

The establishment of a non-profit, self-financing residential care home for elderly Muslims combines compassionate care with sustainable financial strategies. By placing the needs of the community at the forefront and leveraging community support, partnerships, and innovative funding methods, we aim to create a haven of dignity, respect, and holistic well-being for our cherished elderly Muslims. This business proposal outlines a comprehensive approach that embraces the principles of compassion, self-sufficiency, and community empowerment.
